Karma Cash is what we call the virtual currency on WeStrive. This may seem a little New Age, but trust us, it's not what it seems.
A representation of your efforts
Of course, Karma Cash is an attempt to give all users and groups an incentive to keep using the web site. But: It is also a good way to (in a simple way) track the value of each action taken. This may sound silly, but hang on, and you'll see what we mean. The currency is earned every time you complete an action on the web site. Such actions may be:
- Posting to a forum - K¢10
- Creating a new group - K¢10
- Posting to your blog - K¢10
- Arranging an event - K¢500
- Writing an Article -K¢200
- Posting a calender entry - K¢10
It is great that you live a life online, but we think it is obvious that you should earn more karma cash for arranging real-world events.
Donations
You can also donate to WeStrive. For each $1 you donate to this truly worthy cause you will receive K¢10!
Making the cash flow
Now you know that Karma Cash will be a representation of how active you or your group is. This is why the word "Karma" is in there: You're supposed to get good karma from doing good things, right?
If you feel someone is doing a great job, you can donate them some of your Karma Cash too!
Using the cash for real
(Yes. Using, not spending.) We imagine there will be individuals, groups and organizations earning good amounts of Karma Cash through online fundraising.
– But most people want real money to pay real bills. We think that will be no problem. Many sponsors require you to fundraise some money yourself. Often, they'll pay you an equal amount to what you yourself have fundraised. What if your fundraising was in Karma Cash? As Karma Cash represents real positive actions (it's the only way you can earn it) it is a good sign of how active your organization and its online supporters are. The sponsor could decide an exchange rate from Karma Cash to your currency. E.g. K¢10000 could be $1000. WeStrive.org will subtract the correct amount from your Karma Cash account in agreement with you and your sponsor.
Other sponsors could connect with WeStrive.org directly, offering you to exchange Karma Cash with their merchandize. Maybe you could get a tube of organic tooth paste for K¢200?
Maybe K¢100 could give you a reduced price at your favorite event?
You could also use Karma Cash to pay for services. This Wired Magazine article made me aware of Ask Sunday, a service where you can pay a fee to get tasks done for you. Why not offer Karma Cash to get people to do the same? They could fund something great doing it.
Avoiding millionaires
The worst thing that could happen would be that people didn't use their Karma Cash. Having millions on your Karma Cash account leads to no useful new actions. Enter: expiration.
If you don't use your Karma Cash, it will expire. So you'll have to keep it moving. Karma Cash expires after 365 days.
