Soon our next intervention will start- this time in Haiti.
Some in our Team worked already together in Gaza and in Indonesia.
the “Friends of Waldorf Education” are a non-governmental organization which built up a “emergency pedagogy”section to help traumatized children in crisis regions. We started in 2006 were we worked with children in Lebanon after the war. In 2008 we worked in China after the earthquake in 2009 we went to Gaza two times and also last year we worked in West-Sumatra, Indonesia to support children who did suffer (and still do) from the aftermath of the earthquake.

Emergency pedagogy is not the same as trauma therapy. It should start as soon as possible after the traumatic event and aims to stabilise the psychological state of the child or teenager. Through creative and artistic forms of expression such as drawing, painting, modelling or playing, the affected person is given the possibility to express their feelings non-verbally.

The methods of Waldorf Education, which are based on a holistic view of the human being accompanied by anthroposophical therapy forms, e.g. art and music therapy, curative eurythmy and rhythmical massage, are particularly well suited to help children to work through their traumatic experiences and to integrate them into their biography.
What we are:
We are a team of 13 professionals (pedagogues, Therapists and Psychologists) with the objective to stabilise traumatised children. We have professionals in experiencal pedagogy, art therapy, movement therapy, special pedagogy for little children and we offer psychological counselling.
What we bring:
We will bring all the needed materials for the work with the children. Also we have contacts to a farm in the Dominican Republic which could help facilitate us with water, food and fuel. Nevertheless in the certain case of Haiti it is a logistical challenge!

Our intervention is planned from 10. – 25. 02.10. We always try to embrace the locals into our work so that they on the one hand know and experience what we are doing and on the other side to be enabled to continue this work.
